Journey through picturesque Kent countryside to find a destination at every station on the Spa Valley Railway. The heritage railway offers visitors the chance to ride the rails between Eridge and Tunbridge Wells on a five-mile journey through the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This branch line was closed in 1986 and has now been running as a popular tourist attraction, manned by volunteers, for over 25 years. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Reaching the railway by Southeastern’s mainline trains is easy as you can simply change platforms at Eridge where mainline services from London and Uckfield stop. This pretty country station is a good starting place for walks into the countryside.
At High Rocks, you can take a walk to see the sandstone outcrops that characterise this area. Disembark at Groombridge to take a look at the historic village inn and church.
Tunbridge Wells West station is the gateway to the historic Regency spa town but it’s also where you can learn more about the railway itself as this is the headquarters of the railway and home to an 1886-built engine shed and a café in a restored buffet car.
Regular fish & chip trains, Saturday evening dinner and Sunday lunch trains run on the lines and there are a host of seasonal events from steam weekends to beer festivals and the Polar Express Christmas experience.
