Those days out in Kent are calling to us, with events, attractions, and experiences all lined up, ready for the season to burst into life. And what better way to enjoy them than by getting from one to the next in a stress-free, planet-conscious, and money-saving way? Here are some of our favourite places to get to with Stagecoach, the experts in ticking all three boxes and making your Kent adventures unforgettable.
By the seaside
A trip with Stagecoach this summer is sure to bring shouts of “I see the sea!”, with routes running along the coastline that will get you where you need to be, comfortable and relaxed. We’ll start with Folkestone, a seaside spot bursting with creativity and life, full of year-round events, and (you guessed it) reachable by bus. Hop aboard the Route 16 this summer and you’ll find yourself within this vibrant town faster than you can say “Day Rider for one”.
Starting in Canterbury, why not make the most of the journey and take a wander around the county’s beautifully historic city before heading to the coast? We all know and love Canterbury for its stunning architecture, stories to unfold, and picturesque streets straight out of a postcard. So, in between exploring icons such as Canterbury Cathedral, the Beaney Museum, and the River Tours, check out our favourite hidden gems, like the delicious wines at Corkk or the picture-perfect scenes at Westgate Gardens.
Once aboard the Route 16, you’ll travel south down to Folkestone, where culture and arts await to give you a day to remember. Take a walk around the Creative Quarter, where you can get a glimpse into the magnificent life of the town – independent shops showcasing some of the best local makers around, cafes that you’ll want to settle down in for the afternoon, and amazing restaurants that will have your mouth watering just looking at the menu!
And while you’re here, you’ll have to check out the Folkestone Harbour Arm, where you can spend the day relaxing and enjoying the delights of the coast. Whether you’re looking for a flavourful burrito made fresh to order, a refreshing craft beer for those warmer days, or some outdoors entertainment, the Arm has got you covered. Sit back, enjoy food and drink that’ll spark the senses, soak up those magnificent seascapes, and let Folkestone entertain you!
If you’ve not quite got enough of the seaside, fear not, as the Seasonal Open Top route will provide you with idyllic views and a relaxing ride, perfect for those summer days spent with the family. Running until the end of September, you can enjoy the coastline to the max, taking this journey from the Ramsgate Boating Pool all the way to Stone Bay in Broadstairs. Along the way, take in magnificent views of the east Kent coast, stopping off at Victoria Parade, Dumpton Gap, Granville Theatre, and Ramsgate Harbour. Make a day of it and head over to see the Italianate Glasshouse (your Insta feed will thank you for this!) or take a shot at Lillyput Mini Golf. For just £2 a person, now’s the perfect time to travel along the Kentish seaside.
At the start of the journey, you'll find yourself in Ramsgate, where the country's largest network of wartime tunnels lie beneath the surface. Go underground and discover the stories waiting to be told, before resurfacing and taking in the picturesque delights of this coastal dream. Head out on the water on an idyllic boat trip, setting sail from the town's Royal Harbour, getting up close to some seals, or even trying your hand at chartering your own boat!
And once you've ridden the Open Top Route, snapping pics and soaking up that sunshine (we'll keep our fingers crossed for good weather if you do too), you'll find yourself at the beautiful Stone Bay in Broadstairs. You and the whole family can enjoy a day spent splashing in the water, catching glimpses of fantastic flora and fauna as you rock-pool, and sitting back to relax on one of Kent's finest beaches.
Ride for the history books
Keep the exploration going with a dip into the county’s best historical sites, starting with Leeds Castle and getting there with the 10X. Dropping you off directly to the doors of the castle, you can get to one of our favourite spots the sustainable way. The journey will take you through the beautiful Kent countryside, before pulling up to the castle where you can enjoy a day out year-round. With plenty going on, from garden discoveries to family adventure, wildlife experiences to overnight stays, your trip will bring something new each time. Why not go all out, and put some adrenaline into the day with a swing in the treetops at Go Ape? With adventures for the whole group, swing, climb, and zip your way through the day.
And no need to worry about fitting it all in one day, as you can pay once and visit all year round at Leeds Castle - pair that with Stagecoach’s Day Rider and Group Tickets, you’re saving on the wonga and the worries when arriving by bus.
Making it onto the list of our top places to visit this year is Dover Castle, where you can get 20% off entry when arriving by public transport. Secret wartime tunnels, a magnificent Great Tower, and fascinating exhibitions are all on offer, making this the perfect spot for everyone in the group to enjoy a slice of Kentish history. Simply catch the 81 and get ready for the adventure...
Brand new this year, the castle opens up its northern defences for the first time ever, with a day out letting you explore medieval tunnels and Georgian casemates. This extensive conservation and reinterpretation project has brought a whole new life to the castle, featuring hands on experiences, exciting interpretations and a new interactive outdoor STEM play area. Reveal the dramatic, untold story of the most testing times in the history of the castle and of England itself.
