Treats all round
Hop off at the Bridge Arms, then take a 5-minute walk down to Bridge Place at the Pig Hotel. There, you’ll find the epitome of cosy, warm, and hearty. Head into the restaurant and the chefs at Bridge Place will bring you tasty and nutritious meals, all made from local produce. Being committed to a 25-mile menu, you can rest assured that the ingredients are healthy, sustainable, and lovingly grown. The drinks at the bar follow suit, providing you with a great range of locally brewed, fermented, distilled, shaken, or stirred options. If you fancy it, why not stay the night in one of The Pig’s quirky, cosy rooms? Whether you’re bringing the family down for a night of rest and relaxation, or you and your partner are enjoying a romantic getaway, there’s a room especially for you. And hey, while you’re there, you’ve got to treat yourself to one of their treatments – what’s an overnight stay in the countryside without a bit of self-care!?
Wander and a wind down
Next stop – Elham! As you journey along towards the coast, you will come across the historic village of Elham. Nestled in the heart of the Kent Downs, this is one spot you don’t want to miss out on exploring. Take a stroll through rolling hills, ancient woodland, and soak in all the beautiful views. Then, settle down for the afternoon in one of Elham’s delightful restaurants, pubs, or even the Cosy Tea Rooms on the High Street. There’s nothing quite like a day of mindful walking in nature to get you feeling calm and restored, and Elham can provide just that!
Coffee and a coniferous
If you’ve got something a bit more restful in mind, then stay on for a little longer and hop off at the Vineyard bus stop. There, you’ll find the Fifth Trust Vineyard Café, where you and friends can enjoy a bite to eat while you overlook the picturesque vineyard. Take a look at the artwork on display, all made by students from the Fifth Trust Centre, who also help with cooking in the café during the week. Then, what is an afternoon nibble if not followed by a look around a garden centre? Peruse the plants, veggies and flowers on display, and soak in all of the natural beauty for the perfect afternoon.
Time travel
Not only can Stagecoach travel through space, but time too! Travel back to 633 and see St Mary’s and St Ethelburga Church, tucked away in the quaint village of Lyminge. Exploring the rest of the area, you’ll find fantastic Tudor houses, and amazing classic architecture. Make yourself popular amongst the history buffs of the family and stop off at Lyminge!
A spot of golf
For any golf lovers out there, where’s better to play a round than in the Kentish countryside? Take the afternoon for some quality time with friends and have a putt on the green at the Etchingill Golf Club. Then head up to The Gatekeeper, where you can rest, have a drink, and make great memories.
We've arrived...Folkestone!
Once you arrive in Folkestone, there is so much to explore. Just a 3-minute walk from the bus station is the Silver Screen Cinema, an independent, old-fashioned cinema within the former town hall. Screening both indie movies and blockbusters, whether you’re in an artsy-deep-thinking mood or a feet-up-easy-enjoyment mood, there’s something for you.
A visit to Folkestone is incomplete without a trip to the Creative Quarter. There, you’ll find a quirky couple-run café with locally sourced food and a killer playlist, a Wholefoods with everything under the sun to keep you feeling happy and healthy, a Spanish restaurant with authentic and lovingly made meals, and plenty more. And that’s just the food! The “Creative” in Creative Quarter isn’t just there for fun; there’s tattoo studios, project spaces, and handmade everything and anything throughout the area. Warm welcomes, good chats and inspiration are waiting!
Heading along to the Harbour Arm, there you’ll be well fed, entertained, and socialised! With nearly 30 independent food and drink vendors, you’re spoilt for choice. Tacos, pizzas, veg bowls, Thai bowls, oysters, and amazing drinks galore! Plus, with plenty of vegan and gluten free options, the whole group will be sorted for food. Head on down for some live entertainment, a bite to eat, and a good time!
The fun doesn’t stop there! Throughout the rest of Folkestone, there is always something going on. Be sure to check out their events page, so you never miss out on an unforgettable day.
