Spring Blossom Tours at Brogdale Farm
Join us this spring for guided spring blossom tours throughout the months of April & May.
The National Fruit Collection holds over 400 cherry varieties alone, but this won’t be the only thing in bloom! Along with the 400 cherries, there will be plenty of other blossoming fruit trees to see including over 2000 varieties of apples, 500 varieties of pears, quince, plums and more. The most stunning spring scenes in the Kent countryside.
Hever Castle and Gardens
Delicate blossom flowers herald spring and the start of the fruiting season, arriving in the soft shades of white, cream and pink.
Here at Hever Castle & Gardens we get to enjoy a bonanza of blossom in April thanks to the stunning white flowers of the ‘Encore’ apple planted by J Cheal in Anne Boleyn’s Orchard. These architecturally interesting trees were introduced at the start of the 20th century when Cheal built the ornamental gardens for William Waldorf Astor.
Penshurst Place and Gardens
The walled gardens of Penshurst Place come alive in April as cherry, pear and crab apple trees all vie for attention with their delicate blossoms. In the Flag Garden cherry and pear blossom steal the show, whilst in the Nut Garden crab apple blossom in various hues shows off above underlying bluebells, tulips and wildflowers. As earlier flowers fade in May, the glory of apple blossom then explodes in the Orchard and throughout the gardens, heralding the bounty to come.
Mount Ephraim Gardens
The gardens witness a beautiful show of spring blossom at this time of year. Flowering cherries provide a delicate glow of whites and pinks, with a fine old example of Prunus ‘Shirotae’ making a particularly spectacular show. The red, pink, and white of the Malus (Crab Apple) take over from the prunus and all are complimented by the frothy white blossom of Amelanchiers, whilst other spring flowering shrubs and trees such as Magnolia, Camellia, Cornus and Pieris add their colours to the mix.
Ightham Mote
The spring cherry blossom is one of Ightham Mote’s show-stoppers. There's nothing quite like the beauty of white or pink-tinged petals adorning trees.
On the eastern bank, the explosion of pink-tinged cherry blossom is complemented by the English bluebells and daffodils blooming in the grass underneath. Walk along the high path, with the trees flowering below, to catch glimpses of the house or cottages framed with blossom. Alternatively, wander on the terrace to see the blossoms contrasting against the sky.
Leeds Castle
This spring, visitors to Leeds Castle will be treated to a breath-taking sight. The Princess Alexandra Gardens, which incorporate the Oriental Gardens and a recently landscaped waterside avenue, will be lined with an abundance of Japanese cherry trees in full bloom. These trees were all carefully selected for their vibrant colours, timing of blossoming, and historical significance. Donated to the Castle by the people of Japan in 2021, as part of the national Sakura Cherry Tree Project, which aims to celebrate Japan’s relationship with the UK.
Belmont House and Gardens
Discover Belmont House & Gardens this season and enjoy the wonderful display of blossom. It’s a welcome sign that spring has arrived. The Kitchen Garden contains a variety of fruit trees including apple, pear, plum, peach, medlar and quince. Visit during April and early May to see blossom in abundance.
