We’ve grabbed our favourite snacks from the cupboard, we’ve hit play on the remote, and we’re ready to binge watch Season 6 Part 2 of The Crown. You can't have watched all the episodes already, have you? Well, we don't blame you if you have!
But anyway, we’re not here to chit chat about the show, we’re here to tell you all about the filming locations of The Crown that we bet you didn’t know were filmed here in Kent! Background locations taking the spotlight? They certainly are…
Rochester
The background of King Charles III and Queen Camilla's wedding looks familiar you say? Did you guess Rochester? Well then you guessed correct! The Guildhall in the High Street of this historic Kentish town was doubled as Windsor Guildhall, creating the perfect backdrop to showcase the royal wedding. Local businesses were transformed and decorated with bunting to reflect the celebrations of the big day that took place back in 2005.
The Historic Dockyard Chatham
It was all go at The Historic Dockyard Chatham for the filming of season 1 of The Crown. The production team decided the Dockyard would make the perfect backdrop for a dockside scene on Anchor Wharf after building part of the side of a ship. With its Georgian and Victorian buildings and rich history, it’s no surprise the Dockyard took the spotlight. The venue was then revisited in season 5 to film the Queen boarding a ship at Anchor Wharf. Can you spot the scene we’re talking about?
Brompton Barracks, Chatham
In season 4, Brompton Barracks, located in Chatham, was another Kent location visited for filming. The Parade Square and The Mall were used for the amazing scenes re-enacting Trooping the Colour at the Horse Guards Parade.
Cobham Hall
Eton College or Cobham Hall? This stunning 16th century house is surrounded by 150 acres of landscaped gardens, it’s no wonder it was doubled during season 5 & 6 as Eton College. Cobham Hall is now a private boarding school, offering tours to the public, so you can quite literally walk in the footsteps of the stars of the show and why not pretend to be a royal for the day, we would!
Discovery Park, Sandwich
Noticed Mohammad Al-Fayed’s offices in season 6 part 1? Well take a guess where that was filmed… Discovery Park in Sandwich. The large business park and the incredible buildings, presented as the ideal shot for this scene.
