‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…’ and there is one very important Christmas tradition we can rely on – our towns and cities will be illuminated with twinkling Christmas lights through the whole season, bringing a bit of sparkle on a winter’s day! Upgrade your wanders and shopping visits by looking up to see these magical sights – hot chocolate in hand not required, but definitely recommended…
Canterbury
The countdown is ready! Christmas is coming to Canterbury town on Saturday 12th November, hosting a range of festive activities and celebrations bringing you that Christmas joy. Enjoy live music from Robbie White at 6 pm in front of the Westgate Towers and then follow the parade, led by beautiful glowing lanterns carried by young local makers to Whitefriars. The festive lights will switch on at each section whilst the parade moves through the streets along with live music from No Limits Streets Band, seasonal characters as well as a giant Father Christmas. The parade will take you round into Rose Square by Primark where you will be welcomed by KMFM Radio Presenters Garry and Chelsea ready for the countdown. Bring along your own lanterns and fairy lights and make Canterbury streets sparkle! Wander around the Christmas Markets which are open until 10am (some shut at 8pm) and stock up on those gifts and festive treats. Don’t forget to head down the side streets around the Cathedral Quarter to take your Instagram-worthy shots!
Hever Castle
The daytime and the early evening during the festive period at Hever Castle is as magical as it sounds, with a wander around the castle, gardens and lake you'll step into a world of glorious lights. Remember to take your torch and follow the trail of lights that will illuminate Hever Castle's icons.
Gravesham
Bring your family and friends to Gravesend Christmas lights, known as The Gravesham Festival of Christmas Lights!, set to light up the streets on Friday 18th November between 4:30pm and 6pm. Watch the cast from the pantomime Aladdin kicking off the entertainment then follow the glowing lanterns led by the Mayor of Gravesham Cllr Peter Scollard, with the lights switching on as the parade passes by.
Tenterden
The charming town of Tenterden with its quaint independent shops and tree-lined streets looks like it was plucked from a Richard Curtis Christmas movie when decorated for the season. To feel like you've been whipped straight from normal life into a festive film, take a walk around the town with your favourite Christmas tune playing from your headphones.
Broadstairs
Head over to Broadstairs on the 26th of November and take part in the traditional family fair filled with Christmas stalls and music to really get you and your family in that festive spirit. Do not forget to visit Santa in his Grotto and enjoy the festive food and drinks warming you up as you wait for the streets to glow. At 5pm make sure that you are near the Christmas tree and bring your lights to light up the streets and enjoy the Christmas magic!
Maidstone
Our county capital is ready to be lit up to get you and your family in that festive spirit with a raft of fairy lights and stars. This year, the switch-on is happening on Thursday 17th November in Jubilee Square transforming the shopping area into a Christmas wonderland.
